Save One Day at a Time

Netflix announced that they are canceling their show, One Day at a Time. This is a reboot of a television from 1975 - 1984 of the same name. Netflix's One Day at a Time follows the Alvarez family, Cuban Americans living in California. Penelope Alvarez (played by Justina Machado) is a veteran who lives with her mother, Lydia (played by West Side Story royalty, Rita Moreno), and her two children, Alex and Elena. And of course they have their landlord Schneider always hanging out with them and he is a great source of comedic relief. This show fosters diversity and shows real people of the Latinx community being...well, REAL. We crave television shows and movies that support a diverse cast, so why would Netflix take this away?

One Day at a Time covers so many important topic with a gentle touch and a dash of comedic timing to remind you that you're watching a comedy series. Whether Elena is getting driving lesson or coming out to her family, the show covers it. Whether Alex is recruiting his Abuela to buy the new Yeezy sneakers or learning about toxic masculinity, the show covers it. When Penelope can't get out of bed because of her depression or when Lydia had a stroke. You're with this family through every up and every down.

Netflix talks about how much they support diversity and want to tell stories about people who are real. The Alvarez family is real. A show that showed real people going through real issue. If you haven't seen One Day at a Time, I high recommend watching it. You will not be disappointed. But you will be disappointed in Netflix.
