“To be young, gifted, and Black…”
Chadwick Boseman, 43, died yesterday from colon cancer.
A truly, devastating blow. I’ve recently come to realize why I put my full support into certain artists is because they’ve given me something in my life. Perspective, laughter, hope...whatever it may be, your favorite artist has given you a piece of your life. Chadwick Boseman gave me a movie that showed me a relatable and futuristic depiction of a Black superhero. Black Panther, is and always will be my favorite superhero because his family was the first priority always. I remember sitting in the theatre the day Black Panther opened, cracking my neck looking up at the big screen because the up close seats were the only ones available. The moment I felt Chadwick’s presence on the screen, I was home. Black Panther gave me an anchor for the past few years, a movie I could always turn to, a character I could always rely on. Even his part in Captain America: Civil War, he made the movie everything for me.
Chadwick was a true artist, he was and always will be the king. Chadwick is extended family and that is who I have lost. Thank you Chadwick for giving me confidence, courage, and happiness. I wish we could have seen more from you because I know you weren’t done. But thank you for being young, gifted, Black. Rest in power.
