Ballet, Sex and Murder: Time to watch Tiny Pretty Things

Pretty Little Liars meets Dance Academy in Netflix’s show Tiny Pretty Things. Audiences follow an elite ballet academy in Chicago through their triumphs and woes after the mysterious fall of one of their top dancers, Cassie. The school says she fell but the students believe she was pushed. Naveah, played by Kylie Jefferson, is tapped to leave her Oakland dance school to take the fallen ballerina’s spot at the academy while Cassie herself narrates from her hospital bed as she lays in a coma.

The cast is made up of actual dancers which is refreshing to not watch actors try to fake their way through the moves. But alternatively, because they are primarily dancers, the acting is lacking a bit. While the acting may not be the highlight of the show, the mystery is. There are a slew of guilty and suspicious characters that could take the blame for Cassie’s fall. It could be Cassie’s French boyfriend, Nabil, who might know more than he’s willing to share. It could be her frenemy, Bette, who is dying to keep her spot at the top. Or it could be famed dancer Delia, who might have more in common with Cassie than we might have thought.

While this show isn’t the best you’ve ever seen, the life of ballet dancers is interesting to watch and the mystery is enticing. What’s driving me to finish the show is to see how Cassie ended up in that hospital bed. You can stream Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix now.
