The Thing About Harry: Movie Review

Freeform dropped their newest original movie called The Thing About Harry. The movie centers around Sam (played by Grey's Anatomy's Jake Borelli) who has the unfortunate pleasure of driving his high school bully, Harry (played by Niko Tehro) to a mutual friend's engagement party on Valentine's Day. The movie takes place over the course of a couple years showing the build of their friendship and if it could possibly lead to more.

It's really great to see a cute rom-com play out with characters in the LGBT community. And overall the movie is good, I wouldn't say it was bad or magnificent, but it was good. I do think that if this movie had a bigger budget and maybe a quick script revamp it would be an amazing movie. I especially liked that they showed the relationship between Harry and Sam as a slow build. I feel like a lot of rom-coms tell a love story over the course of two days and this one was over the course of a few years.

The characters of Sam and Harry seemed really fleshed out. I liked that they both had layers to them. Especially, Harry, he had a lot of sides to him that you saw throughout the movie and it was fun to watch him grow and grow with Sam. And I can't lie it was kind of refreshing for the straight girl best friend to be the stereotype without a fully formed character. Usually the "gay best friend" takes that role but it was honestly nice to see the switch.

The Thing About Harry....and Sam, is that they are a cute couple, with a cute story, in a cute movie. I think it was a fun watch and it's pretty much what you'd expect from a Freeform movie.
