Isn't It Romantic Review

Valentines Day has come and gone. We've been craving a good rom-com since 2018 gave Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I've Loved Before. But, fear not! On February 13th, Isn't It Romantic hit theaters. While it did give us the warm feels, but did it have what it takes to land among the iconic rom-com greats?

Isn't It Romantic follows Rebel Wilson's character, Natalie, her love for romantic comedies was squashed by her mother when she was young. Her mother told her romantic comedies weren't for "girls like her". Now she's an architect at a firm that does not take her seriously, she has a shoe box sized apartment in New York, and the only people she hangs out with are her assistant, Whitney (played by Betty Gilpin), and her best friend, Josh (played by Adam Devine). After an accident in the subway Natalie finds herself waking up in the hospital with a mega-hot doctor and in a room that looks like it came straight out of celebrity birthing suite. When Natalie leaves the hospital the streets of New York are cleaner, her apartment is the size of a strip mall, she's a major architect and her sketchy neighbor has turned into her doting, stereotypical gay best friend. Natalie has landed herself in a romantic comedy that hits every single cliche! The movie is also features two of Hollywood's favorite beauties Liam Hemsworth and Priyanka Chopra. Do you think they talked about how their spouses used to date on the Disney Channel?...Probably not.

Rebel Wilson is a great leading lady, she's hilarious and full of life throughout the whole film. It was great to see Rebel and Adam Devine together since Pitch Perfect. This movie came out in the perfect time, right in the middle of awards season. When you are tired of watching heavy, Oscar nominated films it is nice to have a comedic escape. Isn't It Romantic was the perfect comedic escape for me. You could tell the cast had great chemistry, even in the middle of all these rom-com cliches nothing felt super forced. Each actor brought the comedy. It was a great look at how silly romantic comedies can be while paying homage to classic romantic comedy tropes.

If I had to describe this movie in one word I would say fun! Will this movie land among the rom-com greats? Probably not. But, will you walk away laughing and feeling good? Absolutely! I would give Isn't It Romantic 7/10.
