The Fast and The Furious franchise has finally given birth a spin-off! And at the steering wheel this time is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham in Hobbs & Shaw. They're reprising their roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw to fight, the self-proclaimed, "Black Superman." Who is also known as Brixton, played by Idris Elba.
The unlikely duo are fighting Brixton to save the world from a deadly virus. This movie is filled with everything thing you'd expect: crazy car chases, macho banter, and one-liners about saving the world. But, it had the best parts of the F & F franchise and a twist that was all their own.

The Rock, Statham, and Elba are the biggest reasons why this movie works. Spin-offs can be dicey, but they took the gamble on these characters that had a lot to offer the story. They bring life into the characters and make them a lot more likable. Even the villain, Elba is such a charismatic actor that I felt myself drawn into every part of his character.

The F&F franchise works so well because it's an action movie but the main ingredient is family and Hobbs & Shaw is no different. Their families are a big part of this movie and it gave great exposition for their characters. It was also nice to see a lot of the Samoan culture that comes from Hobbs's side of the family.
For a fun time at the movies, eye candy, funny cameos, and action, Hobbs & Shaw is the movie for you. Just as a disclaimer you need to suspend your disbelief for a couple hours, could The Rock really hold a truck and flying helicopter with his bare hands? Probably not but is it entertaining to watch? Definitely!
